Once upon a renaissance faire, in a far, far away land….
Ok, just kidding or am I?
So, it all started with a lemonade stand at the Silverleaf Renaissance Faire. While working here, I instantly fell in love with renaissance fairs. I watched the belly dancers in amazement, although the thought to dance myself never crossed my mind!!! Funny how time changes things eh?!
As the years went by, I actually began to get involved with the fairs at a performer. I joined one of the areas local sword fighting groups and trained to fight live-steel (I even have some scars to prove it!) As a requirement of the group I needed to create a renaissance period character and chose a Gypsy as a result of my Slovak family roots. I then took it a step further and decided I should also learn to belly dance to further my Gypsy character (the birth of Magda the sword-fighting belly dancer!)
I then began to find a new love, DANCE! Through my dance classes I met up with Sarah and Erik. Soon after I moved to Phoenix, Arizona. While in Arizona I studied under a private instructor and began to blossom as a dancer and even began performing. When the heartache of missing family and friends set in, I decided I needed to come back to Michigan (almost forgot how much I hate snow!!!) Upon my return, I was contacted by Sarah to join classes.
While in class, an opportunity to join Boheme was offered and I gladly accepted. Dancing with this troupe has been an absolute pleasure! Everyday I feel I am growing not only in technique, but creatively speaking. I feel one of the greatest aspects of this troupe is the ability to fuse bellydance to other forms and ideas.
