About Channon
Channon Mondoux, "Ahlam", has studied Middle Eastern Folkloric and Egyptian Cabaret dance extensively with artists such as Aida al Adawi, Artistic Director of the Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble, Krystal, Artistic Director of the Awalim Dance Troupe of Windsor, Helene Erikson of Germany, Yasmina Amal of Lansing and numerous interntaional teacherrs and performers. She was principle dancer and choreographer for Faire Companie a medieval and renaissance music and dance troupe who have performed across the mid-west. In addition, she has pursued learning the historical aspects of dance by independently studying Ancient Egyptian dance, Medieval and Renaissance dance and music as well as early modern dancing from the 1800's, 1920's and forward to modern styles. She has researched and recreated various dance forms utilizing period documented dance steps and references combined with her artistic inspiration and flair for interpretation of the music. Her background in full contact martial arts provides her with a foundation for movement and styling of sword dance known in the Middle East as "raks al saif".
